2008 CE Public-Use Microdata
The 2008 public-use microdata (PUMD) were originally released to the public on
October 15, 2009. Two errata were issued after the release. The zip files below contain the most
recent version (December 2, 2009) of the 2008 PUMD, including addenda files.
About 2008 CE PUMD
Some of the highlights and changes in the 2008 PUMD were:
- In 2008 additional questions were added to the Interview to specifically capture information on the
Economic Stimulus Act of 2008. These questions were implemented in June 2008 and the data collected is
compiled into a tax rebate file (ERBT). For each rebate reported by the CU, there is a record in the ERBT
file. For more information see the subset of documentation files below.
- Beginning in 2008Q1 the poverty-related variables were expanded in the Diary to include both current year
(CY) and prior year (PY) information, in order to facilitate different measures of poverty. For more
information see the Diary Documentation (PDF) below.

2008 Microdata Errata
This section lists all the errata that were issued for the 2008 PUMD release.
Please note: the files available for download already have the necessary addenda applied. The users need not apply any addenda themselves.

An error was found in the month of receipt in the public-use Interview Tax Rebate file (RBT08) and related values in the MTAB file (MTBI083). The error does not involve the dollar amounts received or how the money was intended to be used by the respondents. For more information see the original errata release.

Four variables from the UTA file were found to be missing in the PUMD Access data dictionary and the Interview Data Dictionary. Additionally, the year values in the QYEAR variables in the PUMD Access data dictionary and Interview Data Dictionary were not updated to reflect the current release years. For more information see the original errata release.
